AntConfig version 1.4

AntConfig Version 1.4 Release notes

Important notice:

  1. AntConfig is suitable for the design of arrays with baselines up to 20km or so where the earth curvature does not have an effect.
  2. A new back end simulator/optimizer has been developed that has many more features, including earth curvature effects, with particular emphasis on performance analysis metrics. But an interface must still be produced.

Request opinion from users

  1. I would like to receive input from users to learn if you would prefer a Windows or OSX interface for the pending successor of AntConfig. Please email (mattieu@…) me your vote and if you have the time also give me an idea if you are a student/astronomer/engineer.

Corrected bugs in v1.4:

  1. Scaling of arcsecond axes corrected. This affects PSF (synthesized beam) size.
  2. PSF not multiplied by primary beam.
  3. Dirty/ideal image premultiplied instead of postmultiplied by primary beam (before fourier data extracted, not after image formed).
  4. Correct dish displayed size, uv-snapshot displayed sample sizes.
  5. Ensure dishes and uv samples do not dissappear when zoomed out. Ensure you can still drag them around when zoomed out.

Added features in v1.4:

  1. FWHM major minor scales and orientation of PSF provided in report.
  2. Display of primary beam with FWHM contours, and indicator for dipoles orientation; also for aperture arrays.
  3. Added numerous layouts of existing telescopes (wsrt, alma, atca, vla).
  4. Included Tim Cornwell's rms sidelobe and surface brightness sensitivity metrics from Memo 18 NRAO.
  5. Log-Polar plot of uv data.
  6. Allow auto contrast stretching of images. Click and drag to change contrast and brightness on images.
  7. Moved correlator dump time from under frequency to timing tab.
  8. Automatically calculate suitable gridding size.
  9. Added arcsec axes to image planes.
  10. Special function (shift control drag) to count n antennas within radius from origin.
  11. Added a few more sky images

Removed features in v1.4

  1. Display of ideal Gaussian PSF Profile removed to avoid confusion
